Using Webmail
As well as giving you the ability to download your email to your computer, we also provide a convenient way for you to access your email without needing any new programs on your computer. After loging into the Speedy Portal (accessible on every page of this website under "Registered Users Login", above) you will see some items in the menu on the left of the screen. Specifically, under Mailboxes and Webmail.
Before using webmail, you must have a hosting package which includes mailboxes. A mailbox is where your email will collect after being sent to your new email address. The Starter hosting package includes one email address while Power includes five.
You can add additional mailboxes in bundles of five to your hosting package by clicking Renew or Upgrade in the portal menu, this way you can have a seperate email address each of your friends and family.
Creating a Mailbox
Under the Mailboxes title on the portal, click on "List my mailboxes". This will show you the mailboxes already attached to your account. If you already have a suitable mailbox address configured then you can skip the steps to create one.
Otherwise, after reviewing what is already configured, click Create new mailbox. This will open a new page where you can create and add a new mailbox.
| Email Address |
Set what you want as your email address. This is how it works:
You have already bought a domain name to use. This domain makes up the bit after the @ sign: user@yourdomain.co.uk. If you have more than one domain name then you can click on the pop-down lister on the right and choose which one you want to use for this email address.
What you can now set is the bit before the @ sign: user@yourdomain.co.uk. This can be anything you want, but can't include spaces. Some examples:
- joe@my_speedy_website.co.uk
- joe_rock@my_speedy_website.co.uk
- joe.rock@my_speedy_website.co.uk

| Username |
This allows you to collect mail from different domains together in one Inbox or seperate them out for many users.
If you create 5 email addresses under 5 different domain names and give them all the same username, they will collect in the same webmail account.
If you give them all different usernames (e.g. if they are used by different people) then on the webmail page you will have the ability to choose between the usernames and view the email seperately depending on which account they came from.
This is also the username required to log in to view this account by POP3 (Outlook, or other Email programs that run on your PC). |
| Password |
The password for accessing your mail remotely by POP3, for example by Outlook. |
Accessing your Webmail
Under Webmail in the menu on the left, click My Inbox. The "in box" is another term for your mailbox, but specifically means where mail comes in to the system. A mailbox can also be used for storage of mail.
There is a pop-down menu near the top right of the screen. This is where you choose which username to view (see above) if you have more than one. If you have just created your new email address then there won't be any emails listed to view.
Reading your Mail
As your email comes in, it will be listed in the order it was received in your Inbox. To view the message, click the highlighted title under theSubject header. To return to the list, either click the Back button of your webbrowser or click on My Inbox.
If you are sent any messages with attachments, these will be shown at the top of the message you are reading (messages with attachments are also noted in the inbox list with paperclip ). Attachments are files people send you, such as pictures, music, documents, anything a computer program can save to disk. To access the attachment just click on it and it will be automatically downloaded and opened by your computer. You can also save the file directly to your computer by right clicking and choosing "Save target as..." (Internet Explorer; Netscape and Mozilla use "Save Link to Disk...").
Managing your Mail
There is a limit to how much mail you can store on within your webmail account. How much depends on the storage available with your hosting package: a meter at the bottom of the inbox list shows how much space you have left. You should ensure that you always have enough space available for the email you expect to receive.
To remove old mail to make way for new, you must delete any mail you no longer want. After clicking My Inbox, you will see that on the right of each message in the list is a small trash icon: . Clicking this will delete that message from your mailbox and so make that space available for new mail coming in. You will not be warned when clicking this icon, so be careful. Make sure you have already saved anything you want to keep to your local computer.
Note that your mailbox will fill up very quickly if you are send large files as attachments. As with any email account, it is not recommended that you receive very large files (bigger than 1MB) as attachments.
Removing Mailboxes
You can delete a mailbox by clicking List my Mailboxes and then clicking the remove icon . You will always have at least one mailbox for each domain you own, but extras you have added can be deleted to make room for differently named email addresses. Note that deleting a mailbox removes all the email stored within it: ensure you have copied out any information you wish to keep.
