Downloading Your Web pages with Bullet Proof FTP

An FTP (File Transfer Protocol) client is used to transfer files to and from your web space.

If you don’t have one you can download the popular client Bullet Proof from www.bpftp.com. There are many other FTP programs available.

This guide explains how to remove files from your web space while using Bullet Proof FTP (referred to as BP FTP from now on)

You will need your user login and password, which you should have available from your sign up to Speedy.uk.net. At the top of the BP FTP window you will see three white text boxes labeled Host, Login and Pass.

  • In the Host text box enter ftp.speedy.uk.net

  • Next enter your user login in the Login box. This is the name you gave when registering.

  • Your password in the Pass box.

Once these are filled in, you will need to connect to the server by clicking on the left-most button on the tool bar which looks like this:

Downloading Files

Downloading takes files you have previously uploaded and retrieves them to your computer. Please note that when downloading files are still left on our server but also added to your computer. It is a good idea to download files onto your computer before deleting them in case you delete the files by mistake.

Downloading files is similar to uploading files but use the listers in the opposite way. Select your files from the right lister (the server), drag them across into the left lister (your PC), click Go Go Button and wait for your files to download.

Deleting Files

Deleting files permanently deletes them from our server. It is a good idea to make a backup of files before deleting them incase you accidentally delete the wrong one(s). See Downloading Files above for instructions on how to make a backup.

There are two listers, one on the left with your local files (your PC) and one on the right with published files (the server). Select the file(s) from the right window that you wish to delete and then click the Delete key on your keyboard. The file(s) will not be immediately be deleted, but you will be able to see them queued up in the bottom-most list. When ready, click the Go Go Button button and wait for your files to be deleted from our server.
