Uploading Your Webpages with Bullet Proof FTP
An FTP (File Transfer Protocol) client is used to transfer files to and from your web space.
If you don’t have one you can download the popular client Bullet Proof from www.bpftp.com. There are many other FTP programs available.
This guide explains Bullet Proof FTP (referred to as BP FTP from now on) in detail, but with care the same instructions can be applied to other programs.
Configuration
You will need your user login and password, which you should have available from your sign up to Speedy.uk.net. At the top of the BP FTP window you will see three white text boxes labelled Host, Login and Pass.
-
In the Host text box enter ftp.speedy.uk.net
-
Next enter your user login in the Login box. This is the name you gave when registering.
-
Your password in the Pass box.

Once these are filled in, you will need to connect to the server by clicking on the left-most button on the tool bar which looks like this:
Locating Files
Once connected, you will need to locate the files on your computer that you wish to upload. To locate files click on the Browse button for the left-most file lister (under Files on your Computer), click on the folder where your files are being stored and click OK. You might have to wait a couple of seconds before you actually see your files.
To locate files on the server (which is the right-most file lister), rather than using a Browse button you should double click on the displayed subdirectories, using the Go up a directory button (a folder icon with an upwards pointing arrow). Your webpage should be contained in a folder named website which will already exist. You must change to this directory on the server (by double clicking it) before uploading.
Before you do any uploading or downloading you may want to backup your files just in case you overwrite a file by mistake. It is also good practise to always keep a backup of your website on your computer, even when there is a copy online.
Uploading Files
Uploading places your files on our server.
There are two listers, one on the left with your local files (your PC) and one on the right with published files (the server). Select the files from the left window that you wish to upload and drag them into the right window. They will not be immediately uploaded, but you will be able to see them queued up in the bottom-most list. When ready, click the Go button and wait for your files to upload to our server.

The screen capture above shows the layout of Bullet Proof FTP. As you drag your files from Your Files to Files on Web Server, the Queue of actions will be added to. Your files will not appear on the web server until you click the Go button, when the actions listed in the queue will be run through as your files are uploaded.
Downloading Files
Downloading takes files you have previously uploaded and retrieves them to your computer.
Downloading files is similar to uploading files but use the listers in the opposite way. Select your files from the right lister (the server), drag them across into the left lister (your PC), click Go and wait for your files to download.
